CREATING SUSTAINABLE SPACES

Transforming Spaces for Tomorrow

Modern urban development often operates under a linear, extractive model. Built environments, designed without circular principles, generate massive waste streams, deplete resources, and fail to integrate natural resilience. This results in urban inertia—a disconnect between sustainable theory and practical, scalable implementation on the ground. CLL@IMUAU exists to dismantle this gap, providing the necessary physical and academic platform to prove that circularity is not just a goal, but a deployable infrastructure.

To establish a tangible, functioning Circular LivingLab (CLL)—a physical site for testing prototypes and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in real-time.

To create a robust academic framework (LCMC) by fostering collaboration across Architecture, Design, Urbanism, and Landscape Architecture.

To synthesize complex research findings into clear, actionable Blueprints and Action Plans that can be adopted and adapted by municipalities globally.

The Methodology

Our approach is deeply rooted in Action Research and Community-Engaged Design. We do not provide abstract reports; we co-create solutions. Our process is iterative and hands-on:

1.Diagnosis

Extensive field documentation and study of local resource flows and material waste (A6).

2.Co-creation:

Running intensive, thematic workshops that bring diverse stakeholders together to prototype solutions (A1).

3.Implementation

Building the physical prototypes and the LivingLab model, proving feasibility and impact on a tangible scale (A2).

4.Dissemination

Developing the final, replicable Action Plan, educational tools, and scientific literature (A4).
